CoD: Warzone 2 devs remove scopes that identify cold-blood perk

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 developers have added restrictions to the Ranked game mode to make the gameplay more exciting and competitive.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s Ranked mode will impose more restrictions to make the gameplay more balanced. This time, it would be in the form of restricting Thermal Optics that have the unintended ability to identify Cold-Blooded players through smoke grenades, namely the SZ Holotherm, VX350 Thermal Optic, Teplo-op3 Scope, Thermo-Optic X9, Teplo Clear Shot, and Drexsom Prime-90.

Addressing the decision, Treyarch Studios elaborated that the unintended interaction between the thermal optics and the Cold-Blooded perk gave the players some undue advantage, especially in the late rounds.

The developers also mentioned that the optics attachments would appear unrestricted in custom loadout menus but would be restricted in-game and will show as restricted in loadouts once the match is started.

This means that the players will have to resort to alternative scopes for their snipers for use in the ranked modes. This, however, is not the first time that balancing Warzone 2 has taken items off the inventory.

Earlier, Ranked play saw the removal of the Cluster Mine and the Bomb Drone Killstreaks. Also noted was the removal of proximity voice chat and global text chat features to reduce harassment and abusive content in the lobbies and in-game.

Other changes introduced include disabling the Squad Assimilation for Warzone 2 Ranked play ability to play only with trios, i.e., three-member squads. Being in beta, this is subject to change at any point in time.

Along with the official announcement, the developers confirmed that removing the optical attachments was done to keep the matches fair and competitive.

The Restrictions are based on data and feedback; restricted items may return in an upcoming Season after they’ve undergone balance changes.
