Intel’s upcoming Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh core counts leaked

Intel is moving on to the next generation of Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake CPU SKUs in their quest to compete with fierce rivals AMD.

Recently, on Youtube, Moore’s Law is Dead revealed presentation slides that provide an in-depth view into core counts for the Meteor Lake “Core Ultra,” which will be ready for launch later this fall. Intel also has a Raptor Lake Refresh product lineup planned.

The CPU series was arranged in a six-tier system based on power consumption.

  1. Tier 1 – 7 W Meteor Lake-U with 5 to 9 cores with a maximum of 1 Performance and 8 Efficiency cores
  2. Tier 2 – 9 W Meteor Lake-U with 6 to 10 cores with a maximum of 2 Performance and 8 Efficiency cores
  3. Tier 3 – 15 W Meteor Lake-U with 6 to 12 cores with a maximum of 4 Performance and 8 Efficiency cores
  4. Tier 4 – 28 W Meteor Lake-P with 10 to 14 cores with a maximum of 6 Performance and 8 Efficiency cores
  5. Tier 5 – 45 W Meteor Lake-H with 12 to 14 cores with a maximum of 6 Performance and 8 Efficiency cores
  6. Tier 6 – 55 W Raptor Lake Refresh-HX with 14 to 24 cores with a maximum of 8 Performance and 16 Efficiency cores

One crucial fact to note was Intel’s emphasis on the Meteor Lake Lineup. The significant distinction between the two lineups lies in the GPU upgrade for the Meteor Lake.

Meteor Lake’s integrated GPUs are based on Alchemist GPU, comprising state-of-the-art Xe-LPG architecture. However, the higher-end Raptor Lake Refresh will retain the same GPU architecture as the current iteration with a limitation of 32 units.

The Upgrades to the Xe-LPG “integrated” graphics

As mentioned, the integrated GPU of the Meteor Lake has undergone some upgrades. These new low-power graphics Ips have 33% more graphics cores. Power and area efficiency are optimized with Full DirectX12 ultimate support and dual render slice scalability.

As for the launch roadmap, the new Core Ultra series will be the first, followed by Raptor Lake-U chips targeted at low-end platforms. The Raptor Lake Refresh’s HX lineup will utilize the same die as the desktop ones.

While these leaks are enormous, the lack of final SKU names and clock frequencies leaves room for more. Intel is expected to unveil these details at its upcoming Innovation Event on the 19th of September 2023.
