Leaks Reveal AMD’s China-exclusive card based on cut-down Navi 31 Die

On YouTube, Moore’s Law is Dead recently revealed the details for AMD’s upcoming graphics cards based on the Navi 31, Navi 32 and hybrid architecture. These were the RX 7800 XT, RX 7700 and RX 6900/6800 series.

Chinese media outlet ITHome has reported that AMD is bringing out Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition, limited to the Chinese Market. This is in celebration of 2023 being the Year of the Rabbit.

The RX 7900 GRE is an exciting GPU. As reported, the GPU specifications of the RX 7900 GRE will be slightly lower than the RX 7900 XT.

The RX 7900 XT, which has 84 Compute Units, will outperform the RX 7900 GRE, which will have a reduced CU count in the 80-84 CU range.

The RX 7900 GRE will reportedly be based on a cut-down version of the Navi-31 GPU die. The card is expected to come with 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit interface.

The memory is lower than the flagship RX 7900 XT, which has 20GB of GDDR6 memory. The report by ITHome was not comprehensive as it did not provide a release date or other specifications.

However, the GPU was spotted in some databases alongside early Zen 5 architecture-based CPU samples by Wccftech.

This upcoming special edition card will be an RX 7900 non-XT variant with a smaller memory capacity than the XT counterpart.

The RX 7900 XT was first launched in Q3 2022 at an initial price of 7399 Yuan. At present, the price fluctuates around 5699 Yuan. It is fair to assume that the price of the RX 7900 GRE will be lower still.

This is the second AMD product slated for a China-only release recently. Earlier, AMD had clarified that their Ryzen 7040H series will be exclusively available in China-mainland. It will have specs similar to the Ryzen 7040HS series.
