Mortal Kombat 11 character will make a return in Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 marks the advent of a new era in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Yet another reboot of its universe has fans united.

Recently, developers NetherRealm studios have released a new trailer during DreamCon 2023 revealing Geras as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1.

Mortal Kombat 1 - Official Keepers of Time Trailer

For the indoctrinated, Mortal Kombat 1 essentially confirms that events of the Aftermath Expansion from Mortal Kombat 11 are canon. This is especially concerning Liu Kang’s ending.

In this ending, Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung and gains the power to create a New Era where everyone can choose between a quiet life or continue fighting.

The New Era gives fighters in the roster and storyline completely different roles, marking a new era for the Mortal Kombat franchise. This is precisely what we are going to see in Mortal Kombat 1.

These changes are confirmed by every Mortal Kombat 1 trailer. In the trailers, Geras is seen as the guardian of the Hourglass used by Liu Kang to defeat Shang Tsung.

Geras is seen as an antagonist in Mortal Kombat 11 and a servant of Kronika, blessed with godlike powers. However, in the Mortal Kombat 1 trailer, Geras has a friendly relationship with Liu Kang.

It must be noted that fans did not expect Geras’ return. However, fans embraced the news with open arms. In the trailer, Geras’ new character design was shown along with his moves.

His ability as the master of the Sands of Time is still intact, which can be used to attack enemies alongside the renowned Hourglass and extended time-stop powers.

Players were quick to spot the Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality, the first with Geras against Barakas featuring a sandstorm. In the second Fatality, Liu Kang takes and defeats Sub Zero in space in true Mortal Kombat style.

Fans are excited about the release with the return of old characters with revamped design. The release date of September 23rd could not arrive sooner.

About Mortal Kombat 1

Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
