Players are spoilt for choice by a barrage of PlayStation Plus titles

PS Plus is a subscription-based service that allows subscribers to enjoy hundreds of PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and classic PlayStation games, along with benefits like monthly games, exclusive discounts, and content along with Cloud Storage to unleash the true power of the PlayStation consoles.

On Reddit, user u/82brighteyes has posted that PlayStation players with PlayStation Plus are being spoiled for choice with the host of choices that the subscription is providing. They say it is tough to stick to one particular title until completion.

The quality of freebies on PS Plus could also be better for gamers. Players are hit with the fear of missing out on Extra and Premium tier games that PlayStation Plus provides monthly.  

u/82brighteyes made a good point when they said that old gamers also face trouble because of this feature. This is because the older custom was to save for a title, purchase it, and play it until completion.

However, now, being spoilt by choice, gamers start playing games randomly for a couple of hours before hopping onto the next title.

This means that players cannot truly enjoy a title like they did earlier. It is more of a hopping onto the bandwagon, something like Netflix does to boost its viewership.

Another user commented under the post that this excessive consumption of multiple titles directly affects the “consumption-based culture.”

Gamers were spotted longing for the days of PlayStation 2 when they could enjoy a game, grind for a couple of months and even replay it before moving on to the new title.

Another one said that they struggle with selecting a new title and usually end up playing a couple of rounds of Call of Duty, which usually ends in them hating themselves.

Players can earn incentives through the loyalty program PlayStation Stars, introduced last year, by completing “campaigns and activities.” Making trophies, winning competitions, and simply showing up to play a game are all examples of these actions.

Most of these awards could stand to be more stunning. We can trade in earned points for digital collectibles that are displayed in a digital cabinet.

While it sounds like suffering from success, the overwhelming backlog of games is a problem many fans face. While this has led to several tracking methods for prioritizing which game to play first, it can’t be cured until players let go of FOMO.
