Assassin’s Creed Mirage delights fans with revamped pickpocketing

The primary goal of Ubisoft Bordeaux, when they were tasked with the creation of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, was to make a title that captured the essence of the OG Assassin’s Creed titles like Revelations, Brotherhood, and Unity.

Ubisoft has delivered on their promise of “going back to the roots” in ways more than one in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Since its launch on October 5th, fans have noted quite a few things that show that the developers stuck to their promises.

Fans spotted a revamped version of the pickpocketing mechanism in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, seen in earlier Assassin’s Creed titles wherein players can pickpocket passers-by. However, in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, players must time the pickpocket. Otherwise, they run the risk of getting caught.

This new mechanic will make it more realistic and keep players on the edge when pickpocketing people nearby. Veteran players of the franchise will remember how easy it was back in the day.

In older Assassin’s Creed titles, players could pickpocket at the mere press of a button. Many fans felt this was unrealistic but provided an immersive, open-world experience.

Ubisoft, for reasons unknown, decided to restrict pickpocketing to specific missions in AC: Unity and Syndicate. Odyssey and Origins ended up removing the feature as a whole. Valhalla went down the same pattern of pickpocketing for specific missions.

While every NPC in the game isn’t prone to getting pickpocketed, players can earn an extra coin purse or two off an unsuspecting passer-by. Ubisoft also introduced some rewards to ensure players pickpocket and use this feature.

The game has specific collectibles that can only be collected via pickpocketing. However, players must time their buttons right to ensure that the NPC does not notice them.

This attention to detail by Ubisoft Bordeaux is what fans are lauding. Assassin’s Creed is back in its proper form rather than an RPG, and fans are exploring the beautiful landscape of 9th-Century Baghdad in all its glory in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.

About Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla’s own.

Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim’s internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.
