Assassin’s Creed Mirage data mine reveals scrapped AC: Hexe teaser

Ubisoft Bordeaux has done some commendable work in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. No wonder it has become Ubisoft’s most profitable title.

A data miner, Sliderv2, has announced that they have spotted an Assassin’s Creed Hexe teaser amongst Assassin’s Creed Mirage files. The video posted on YouTube shows a now-removed teaser from Mirage, showing a solitary antenna jutting out of the Iraqi Desert’s landscape. The conversation between two Animus operators accompanies this.

Codename Hexe teaser in Assassin's Creed: Mirage?

The conversation between the Animus Operators is likely set after the 22nd century. This can be concluded because one of the operators says that the 21st is “ancient history” during the cutscene.

During the video, the operators discuss a genetic memory of one of the Isu. The antenna is spotted sticking out of the Iraqi desert’s rather barren landscape during their discussion.

This cut was excluded from Assassin’s Creed Mirage relatively recently. The fact that the video is rough around the edges, along with random heavy foliage and rock formations suspended mid-air, shows that the exclusion was not a last-minute choice but a planned one.

The file containing this video is titled “Post Credits_AC Neo Dialogue.” Neo was the codename for the currently in-development AC: Hexe, set in 16th-century Europe during the time of witch trials.

Fans are speculating quite a few reasons as to what the cause might have been for the exclusion of this teaser.

The first reason is that the post-credits tease the immediate upcoming title in the Assassin’s Creed franchise – Assassin’s Creed Red, in this case. The second reason is that Ubisoft Bordeaux did not want to include any modern-day segment in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

While Assassin’s Creed Mirage does not advance the modern-day storyline of the Assassin’s Creed franchise in any way, this teaser serves as a reminder that Assassin’s Creed Hexe is being developed and will arrive soon. Until then, Baghdad is for players to explore in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.

About Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla’s own.

Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim’s internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.
