Intel hardware leaker confirms four new Meteor Lake lineup products

Intel’s tryst with confusing nomenclature continues.

The recent leak by reputed Chinese Insider Golden Pig Upgrade Pack reveals the names of four CPU models. According to them, the Meteor Lake line will include products like the Core Ultra 5 125U and 134U and the Core Ultra 7 155U and 164U SKUs.

Gone are the days when the “Core Ultra” was reserved for top-of-the-line products or a high-performing SKU. Now, the Core Ultra refers to the Meteor Lake lineup.

The entire Meteor Lake lineup prioritizes battery life and is generally underpowered. The TDP is typically in the range of 9W to 15W.

This means the Meteor Lake lineup is intended for ultra-thin portable laptops, rumored to launch in 2024.

It is also speculated that the terminology might not be so bizarre. The XX5U products will feature a 15W TDP. The XX4U products will feature a 9W TDP.

In short, these CPUs will be aimed at conserving battery life over anything else. Those who do not realize how low this TDP is must remember that the 13th Gen H-series Intel Core Mobile processors have a TDP of 45W.

Intel and arch-rivals AMD had decided to switch up their naming convention earlier this year. Intel took a rather radical approach, and as a result, it sees naming systems with age-old Intel fans confused.

Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs are also rumored to be released in 2024. However, these plans have been halted due to production yield issues and might arrive later.

These products hint that Intel targets the broader consumer base with low-powered products better suited for general consumers. Intel is going for battery life over performance, so competitor AMD will soon amp up efforts on the low-power CPU front.
