Fans enraged by bizarre Operator names in CoD: Modern Warfare III

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s release date is drawing closer. Currently, the early access period is open for all players who purchased a digital copy of the title. However, all is not going well for the hotly anticipated CoD title.

Redditor u/Guar2 has posted in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III subreddit that the names of the Operators in the title are terrible, calling it worse than the “Beta” names. The leading Operators under fire were the ones called “Swagger, “BBQ,” and “Riptide.”

These operators fail at the very thing Operators were designed to be – soldiers with special powers who looked the part. However, fans under the post are united by a common complaint that these operators look like generic soldiers without any traits or design that sets them apart.

This is evident in the case of “Swagger,” who is not a Swagger by any stretch of the imagination. The Operator is wearing a gas mask that covers the entire head.

Fans are calling these names and the character design as “off-brand GI Joe characters.” Many players of CoD seemed to agree with this comment by u/ViperFive1.

Activision did not put enough thought into the character design, as players were shocked by the unrelated names and character designs of the operators.

The OG players of the Call of Duty franchise who have played the original Modern Warfare series would note that even for the Captain Price Operator, only the eyes are visible, and his iconic beard is missing.

Newcomers to the franchise do not mind the absurd naming of Bantam and Riptide. However, fans who are used to Soap and Ghost are raising their voice, saying names like “BBQ” do not make any sense.

Since the release of Modern Warfare III is barely three days away, developers of Sledgehammer Games are unlikely to change the character designs.

However, this stern feedback will resonate in the ears of the developers, who will keep in mind the relevancy and correlation of character design with the names of the operators in future titles and DLCs to Modern Warfare III, released on November 10th.
