Mortal Kombat 1 releases update that brings Thanksgiving Fatality

After the relatively successful launch of Mortal Kombat 1, developers NetherRealm quickly followed it up with an update on November 15th. It has brought up many inclusions and a somewhat controversial twist.

The November 15th update of Mortal Kombat 1 has not been reflected on the official Mortal Kombat 1 website. However, the in-game patch notes reveal that a new Thanksgiving Fatality is available in the Premium Store. The update weighs between 0.7 GB on the PlayStation 5 and 83 GB on the PC.

The Thanksgiving Mortality was leaked earlier this week, with Omni-Man receiving the gruesome and disgusting mortality from Sub-Zero. The visuals are gruesome and will pop eyeballs and make one puke.

This fatality, however, seems to be a point of controversy. The decision to sell the fatality as a DLC priced at USD 10 has outraged fans. It is believed that the reason fans are angry is that Mortal Kombat 1 in itself is USD 70.

Fans believe that microtransactions in-game are entirely unnecessary. While the update on the PlayStation 5 is tiny at just 0.7 GB, the Xbox Series X|S updates are double the size at 1.6GB.

However, the update for the PC version is enormous at 83GB, as reported by Steam users. The funny part is that the original title was 91GB in size, which is close to what the update is.

Nintendo Switch users also have a similar complaint, with the update weighing in at a heft 27GB for Mortal Kombat 1, which was 35GB on the Switch.

The changelog also mentions DLC characters being added to “player select.” This has been done to remove the glitch that caused a padlock above the portrait of Omni-Man despite his debut earlier this month.

Another vital inclusion is the new Seasonal Invasions content and multiple bug fixes yet to be described. It can be expected that NetherRealm will fix their pricing soon so that players do not have to dig deep into their pockets for something purely as cosmetic as Fatalities.

About Mortal Kombat 1

Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
