Summary

  • Netflix is bringing GTA: The Trilogy Definitive Edition to Android, iOS, and iPad.
  • The titles will be a part of the Netflix subscription and will be available starting December 14th.
  • While the general reception of the original Trilogy was hostile, a turnaround is expected for the mobile version.

Netflix is known for acquiring rights to many TV series and movies with the help of its deep pockets. Now, they are making a move into the gaming segment as well.

Netflix announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy’s Definitive Edition is coming to iOS, iPad, and Android on December 14th via a Netflix subscription. The Trilogy will include the famous titles GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas.

While in almost all other cases, fans would be excited about the port of a title to iOS and Android, that does not seem proper for this trilogy.

This is mainly because the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy was not developed by Rockstar Games but by Grove Street Games. While the Trilogy boasts better graphics and overall improvements, the gameplay was mainly hampered.

Fans did not enjoy this trilogy as much as the original titles that Rockstar Games developed. Of the three titles, GTA Vice City was noted to be the glitchiest, with the players getting “Wasted” randomly.

The developers have made some changes since the launch of the trilogy. However, the title is flawed and does not offer much improvement.

The choice of Netflix to acquire the rights to this trilogy and publish it on iOS and Android baffles many people. However, this profit-driven move aims to draw significant traffic toward the gaming section of Netflix by leveraging the Grand Theft Auto title.

This, however, is not the only big news by Rockstar Games that will be arriving in December. Fans must not forget that the announcement and reveal of the next Grand Theft Auto title is scheduled for some point in December.

It will be interesting to see how well the ports have been made for the mobile devices and if the glitches persist on these devices as well. Regardless, playing the OG trio of GTA titles on mobile phones promises to be quite an experience.
