Ermac’s new alternative skin from Mortal Kombat 1 leaked by data miner

Summary:

  • Ermac, a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1, is rumored to get a new skin.
  • The new skin for Ermac will feature a new ninja facemask, reminiscent of older Mortal Kombat titles.
  • This new skin will be released in Spring 2024, as per developer NetherRealm’s schedules.

Developers at NetherRealm are constantly working to improve the ever-increasing roster of Mortal Kombat 1. Now, a new leak hints at a new skin that will give an existing player in the roster a brand-new look.

According to a prominent data miner on Twitter by the username @Interloko, Ermac from Mortal Kombat 1 will have an alternative skin as a ninja facemask reminiscent of the earlier Mortal Kombat titles. Another data miner, @SHAAR, supported this by revealing a full-body shot of Ermac in the alternate color scheme.

This alternate costume can also be spotted in the initial leaker, i.e., Interloko’s YouTube channel, albeit without the mask. This initial look is not surprising, given the return back to the origins of the Mortal Kombat series.

The return to the initial days and a reset and reallocation of powers of most characters happened at the end of Mortal Kombat 11 when Liu Kang created a new timeline and order.

In the revamped new world where Liu Kang is the God, Ermac is a vessel of souls trapped in a single-zombie-like body. Earlier, the face used to be covered by bandages or a mask.

However, this was not the case in Liu Kang’s new order, leaving many fans divided over the choice of the unique character design that is missing many of his original undead features like the bandages and masks.

The excitement surrounding Ermac’s release is so high that the modding community has taken matters into their own hands to create Ermac’s placeholder ahead of his release to ensure he is on the playable roster.

The release schedule announced by NetherRealm says that Mortal Kombat 1 will receive Ermac in the Spring of 2024. This will be after Peacemaker becomes playable in Mortal Kombat 1. The constantly improving roster keeps the fanbase engaged and ensures a constant flow of new content for players.

About Mortal Kombat 1

Developer NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed Mortal Kombat 1, the next chapter in its long-running fighting game series, which was released on September 19th. It takes on that name, rather than the expected Mortal Kombat 12 name, because–as previous teasers hinted at–Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort-of-reboot of the series and takes place in the New Era timeline established by Liu Kang after he ascended to godhood in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
