Zero Drift Controllers By Third Party Company In The Market Soon

Controller drift or joystick drift has caused inconvenience among gamers since the very beginning. All video game controllers seem to have this and it is a major headache.  

Your controllers can identify different values of current and further link them to the various actions in the game using the console. In theory, this reads well and should be a smooth operation, right? That is often not the case.  

We experience stick drift when the current value changes without actually having done anything. You can understand the players’ frustration now.  

However, a new solution is being discussed. The tech-pro company Gulikit has come forward to announce a new drift-free controller in the making.  

A “design-based” gaming accessory, Gulikit, uses technology on controllers in general, with their primary focus on the Nintendo Switch and its related products such as charging cables, power units, etc.

Gulikit introduces a new electromagnetic hall sensing technology for controllers. It ensures that the joystick sensors do not come into contact, reducing the friction which causes controllers to decay.  

In a WePC interview, co-founder Jack He further explained the company’s developing technology to combat the “Joy-Con Drift”. 

Each Hall-sensing joystick has two hall sensors and two magnets. ‘Hall Effect’ is essentially the principle of the electricity difference generated when the current passes through a conductor in the magnetic field. 

When the sensor detects the magnetic field is working, the sensor itself has no physical contact with the magnet. 

Therefore, neither sensor nor magnet has physical wear against each other, and there is almost no loss [or friction] on themselves for a long time.

Even though the promise of a controller with zero drift is exciting, it is not entirely perfect. While tested products have shown a lower margin of error, the same cannot be guaranteed over a long time, even though the controller is made to last long.  

The new devices also require a specific chip, which amidst the semiconductor shortage, might make it harder for Gulikit manufacturing units. 

The news is a relief for players and manufacturers alike since Sony and Xbox could also improve their controllers for a hassle-free experience.  

Despite all odds, if Gulikit somehow manages to live up to their word, the entire gaming scene could be changed. We would be looking at effortless hardware to support intense high-end games, and that is saying something!
