Take a Peek Into the AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU Featuring the AM5 Socket!

While the keynote at Computex 2022 provided a brief overview, we still know little about the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7000 series supported by Zen 4/Raphael architecture. The CPUs will feature AMD’s newly designed AM5 or LGA 171, and fans have been waiting for a glimpse!

A video titled “MSI HOW TO Install Uninstall AMD AM5 CPU 1080p” has been doing the rounds lately.

The unlisted video, supposedly by MSI, shows a person setting up an AM5 CPU. The second part of the video also exhibits how to dismantle the CPU.

We can see an unreleased 16-core with 32 threads CPU and an entry-level, B650-inspired motherboard from the video.

Unreleased Motherboard

Early in the video, we can see a close-up of the chip with “AMD ENG SAMPLE” written on it.

AMD ENG SAMPLE

The AM5 is the main highlight of the show. The zero-insertion socket looks finely designed. As an adjustment, AMD has moved all of the needed power management capacitors to the front end of the substrate.

The AM5 Total Platform I/O was disclosed at the Computex keynote.

  • 24 PCIe® 5.0 lanes for storage and graphics
  • ~14 SuperSpeed USB with 20BGbps and Type-C™
  • 6E Wi-Fi Support with DBS and BT LE 5.2
  • ~4 HDMI® 2.1 and DisplayPort™ 2 Ports

Based on previously leaked OPN codes of AMD engineering samples, fans are guessing this configuration is of the Ryzen 7950X(T) Model. The said codes are:

  • 100-000000665-21_N [Family 25 Model 96 Stepping 0]: A 16-core, 32 thread CPU
  • AMD Eng Sample: 100-000000666-21_N [Family 25 Model 96 Stepping 0]: An 8-core, 16 thread CPU
Chip Label

The chip is labeled 2021, indicating the year it was produced. It is a very early sample, so AMD might or might not have continued ahead with these.

The Zen 4 CPUs are slated to be launched very soon this year. It looks like we won’t have to wait too long for AM5!
