Rumors claimed that Intel would also be debuting an all-new LGA 2551 socket in its upcoming 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs in addition to the Tiled Chip design.
Some even believed Intel would continue using the LGA 1700 for three generations. Contrary to these speculations, Intel has different plans after all.
According to the Chinese blog Benchlife, the Meteor Lake-S and Arrow Lake series will be using the LGA 1851 socket interface.
The dimensions of the LGA-1851 are 45mm x 37.5 mm, similar to the LGA 1700 or 1800 used for the Alder and Raptor Lake series. Hence, cooling compatibility will remain intact as much as possible.
The only difference is the slight change in IHS height, which is now 6.83 mm-7.49 mm, rather than 6.73 mm-7.4 mm.
This may demand modified compatibility fasteners while installing the coolers.
An increased height could be an adjustment to fit the new Tiled Chip design used in the Meteor Lake desktop series.
The LGA 2551-pin socket is not listed by Intel product planning for its desktop series, so it will most likely not be used for desktop platforms. However, the socket might be a BGA model for Intel’s other series.
Here are the reviewed specs for the Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake series!
Meteor Lake | Arrow Lake | |
Core Node | Intel 4 | Intel 20A |
Big Core Architecture | Redwood Cove | Lion Cove |
Small Core Architecture | Crestmont | Skymont |
Graphics Architecture | Xe-HPG | Xe-HPG |
CPU Core Count | – | 40(8C+32c) |
GPU Core Count | 192 EU | 320 EU |

The image also suggests Arrow Lake CPUs might arrive before the Meteor Lake series, as ARL is mentioned before MTL-S. Arrow Lake will very likely be the successor to the monolithic desktop Raptor Lake series if that does happen. But this is just speculation.
While many Meteor Lake specifics have surfaced, Intel has been relatively careful to share the Arrow Lake series details. Everything might be all under wraps until just before the launch. The Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake CPUs will be hitting the markets in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
