Fans have been waiting months to see how Intel’s Arc Graphics range plays out. One of the models, the Arc A380, is an entry-level GPU based on Xe – HPG architecture. GUNNIR launched a custom Arc A380 Photon OC, which sold out quickly after it became available exclusively on a Chinese retail website.
Youtuber @PRO Hi-Tech released a video showing the results for the Arc A380 GPU. With a few tweaks, the card boosted frame rates up to 60% without traditional overclocking.
The Youtuber changed the power targets, and the voltage offset was increased by 0.255mv within Intel’s graphic utility. The performance boost slider was set to 55%. Unlike usual cases, the GPU seemed well and fine, even after the excessive overclocking.
These modifications only resulted in a minute performance boost. The official TDP of the A380 OC is 75W, but the user reported 35W usage. This explains the meager results.
When the power draw was maxed to 55W, the card’s performance shot up by 43-57%, compared to the FPS earlier.
Doom Eternal achieved 60% increased performance with 64 to 102 FPS.
The A380 showed excellent results with minimal adjustments. On average, games showed a 37% boost after power changes.
Even though the overclocking process was pretty simple, one wonders how much of Intel’s promised specs will hold up practically. The only problem with the A380 is the confusing power draw. Other than that, it is a great GPU.
The Arc A380 cards currently available are retailing for over $500 in China. Let’s hope at least these manage to deliver the promised 75W TDP.
