Intel Separates 6th-10th Gen Graphics to Legacy Software Models

Intel is separating its older integrated graphics drivers to legacy software models. Those listed are the drivers for the integrated graphics solutions.

With the 31.0.101.3222 Graphics Driver, Intel will be moving 6th-10th Gen Graphics, Atom, Pentium, Celeron processor graphics, and more to a legacy software support design.

The OS platforms affected are:

  • 11th Gen Intel Core processor “Tiger Lake/ Rocket Lake/ Tiger Lake-H” family
  • 12th Gen Intel Core ”Alder Lake-S/ Alder Lake-H/ Alder Lake-P/ Alder Lake-U/ Alder Lake-HX” processor family
  • Intel Iris Xe Dedicated Graphics “DG1” family

Some of the fixed issues in the driver are:

Intel
  • An error message pop-up may be observed when launching Call of Duty: Vanguard (DX12)
  • An application crash may occur in Watch Dogs: Legion (DX11) when booting the game
  • Some Intel NUCPA11(Panther Canyon) and Intel NUC11TN (Tiger Canyon) products may incorrectly enter a sleep state when attempting a shutdown

The 31.0.101.2111 Graphics Driver will divide the older graphics.

The OS platforms affected are:

  • 6th Gen Intel Core “Skylake” processor family
  • 7th Gen Intel Core “Kaby Lake” processor family
  • 8th Gen Intel Core “Kaby Lake-R/ Coffee Lake/ Whiskey Lake” processor family
  • 9th Gen Intel Core “Coffee Lake-R” processor family
  • 10th Gen Intel Core “Comet Lake/ Amber Lake/ Ice Lake” processor family
  • Intel Core “Lakefield” processor
  • Intel Atom, Pentium & Celeron “Apollo Lake” processor family
  • Intel Pentium & Celeron “Gemini Lake/ Jasper Lake” processor family

This driver also fixes the unexpected application crash when starting Watch Dogs: Legion (DX11).

Post update, Intel will be offering two main drivers series–

  1. For 11th/12th Gen Core and DG1 series
  1. For Arc GPUs and 12th Gen Core processors

The obsolete branching is a bit confusing, but there are no confirmed plans for a merger.

Users can expect lesser driver updates. Intel’s driver releases should now primarily focus on major security and software fixes.

Intel’s Arc Alchemist GPUs are expected to launch around September.
