Board Partner Stops Intel Arc GPUs Production Over Quality Concerns

Intel recently answered questions from the community regarding the Arc Graphics range. Fans are excited to test out the GPUs, but the launch dates have not been announced yet.

Igor’s LAB reported that a significant board partner would no longer be producing Intel’s Arc GPUs.

Although the brand is not named, the blog post featured a picture of an MSI system which might be the brand in question. However, MSI has confirmed that the company is producing Arc graphics cards so the rumor might be meant for some other partner company.

In defense of OEMs, Intel has yet to give any price guarantee for Arc GPUs, which makes it difficult in terms of performance and price. Hence, only mid-range models like the ASUS TUF are associated with the range; no high-end custom Arc model has been announced.

Igor’s LAB explained,

At least one of the big board partners has even stopped the production of Intel cards completely (“due to quality concerns“), as I could find out yesterday and today… Other board partners have at least already completely capped their marketing activities, and it does not currently look as if there will be any real launch offensives from the board partners in the time window I mentioned between August 5, 2022 and September 29, 2022.

Another reason for the abrupt stop in production could be the higher maintenance costs due to GPU quality and performance, which drives up RMA rates, and the demand for unoptimized drivers declines.

Intel has not released an official statement regarding this issue, but we might be hearing something soon, given the proximity to the launch date. Intel is expected to announce the pricing range for the Arc series soon.
