Discord Integration for PS4 and PS5 to Arrive by the End of 2022 

Discord has been a popular application among players for in-game communication and networking. Sony has been pretty slow-moving with its partnership with Discord, regardless of how the application will improve the overall gaming experience. 

An insider report claims Sony will carry out Discord implementation on PlayStation platforms as part of a major update. 

The Exputer report states that multiple sources claim the Discord integration will be coming soon. The estimated timeframe for the update is within a few months by the end of 2022. Players on PS5 and PS4 can interact with PC or Xbox users via voice chat. 

Sony has not announced a specific release date since the app implementation is still being tested on PlayStation consoles. Although, the development process is said to be “going very well.”  

There are still loads of things to be figured out. For starters, the approach on how the Discord update will be delivered to players. The Discord implementation will be included in the PlayStation 5 Version 7.00 update, so it is likely dependent on when the other features of the PS5 are ready to go live.  

Version 7.00 is expected to arrive in late October or November. This period is crucial since major game releases are also scheduled during these months.  

Discord is also not available for Xbox users yet. However, the company has released Discord for Xbox Insiders as part of a testing phase before the full launch. It will not be surprising to see Discord coming to PlayStation and Xbox simultaneously.  

To make the transition easier, PlayStation users can log on to the PlayStation Network on Discord beforehand.
