The developers for The Last of Us gave a personal account on how the remake is modeled for a special gaming experience.

The video shows an example of how standard offices have been completely upgraded, with new places to explore, adding on to the open-world setting of the game.
Eric Baldwin, the lead cinematic animator, stated that The Last of Us Part 1 will be a trip down the memory lane, for players who spent hours with the characters.
John Bellomy, the lead programmer, said the remake uses a new AI core which makes for unique action sequences. Fans will be rewarded with a completely new game based on the original.
Side-by-side comparisons of the original, and the remake, show off a heightened sense of emotion from the characters in the game, enhancing every expression. The new development tools work on facial features, making every thought eminent.
