God of War Ragnarok was recently graced the cover of Game Informer magazine, where the feature discussed the combat details and a couple of images from the game. Now, a new video shows the fierce combat in action.
A new gameplay video for God of War Ragnarok showed off vicious combat by Kratos and Atreus.
Kratos and Atreus have been given new abilities for an upperhand in battle, and the weapons can be upgraded over time.
Sony and Santa Monica’s lead combat designers, Mihir Sheth and Denny Yeh, have crucial roles in the development and design of Ragnarok’s combat.
An old studio motto is “playing with your food” and Kratos surely follows it as is evident from his aggressive battle style. Kratos can grapple ledges with his upgraded weapon Blades of Chaos and quickly attack enemies afterwards. Kratos can also launch enemies into the air with the new Dauntless and Stonewall arm shields.
Atreus assists in the battle by stunning enemies with arrows or clearing Kratos’ path. He can also summon spectral allies as seen in God of War. The father-son duo is combat-ready to take on challenging enemies.
Kratos also has the ability to utilize his all-new signature moves by holding or repeatedly pressing the triangle button. Depending on the equipped weapon such as the Blades of Chaos or Leviathan Axe, Kratos can unleash the fire and ice elements through signature moves. The signature moves “Frost Awaken” and “Whiplash” inflict extra damage by freezing and incinerating enemies respectively.
Ragnarok uses the assets of God of War so most of the combat is built from the ground up using a methodical approach.
Gameplay components such as the signature attack combos and special weapons allow players to channel the godly power of Kratos with aggressive attacks.
Since the game is close to launch, fans can expect more information regarding gameplay. God of War Ragnarok releases November 9 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
