State of Decay 3 is the next installment in the zombie apocalyptic franchise State of Decay on Xbox. The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 with the help of The Coalition, famous for Gears of War. It will bring back the immersive universe, a new story, and some old mechanics.

The head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, recently discussed the development of State of Decay 3 on Xbox’s Major Nelson podcast, which was a delight for fans who had been waiting for some news. He claimed Undead Labs is working with the studio behind Gears of War, The Coalition, to bring new technologies to the State of Decay.

He also mentioned that many concepts from the State of Decay 2 would be getting overhauls in the next installment. However, there might be some delays for the final launch amidst claims of a toxic workplace environment at Undead Labs. Several reports about problems within the studio implied the team could not unanimously agree on a direction for the game.

The developers have successfully addressed the issues regarding workplace practices and are moving ahead with a clear vision for the State of Decay 3.

State of Decay 3 is one of the upcoming AAA titles coming to Xbox Series X; the quality is promising given the studio’s earlier work. Its predecessor is becoming popular among players who have come to enjoy the State of Decay universe. Hopefully, the next game will exceed expectations.
