ESRB Publishes Rating for God of War: Ragnarok Along w/ Summary

God of War: Ragnarok will wrap up Kratos and Atreus’ story as the duo travels through the Nine realms. Sony has stated the sequel will feature some intense battle scenes, even one where Kratos faces off against the mighty god Thor.

God of War: Ragnarok received its ESRB rating and a short summary explaining the level of violence and gore one can expect from the game.

God of War Ragnarok

Ragnarok is rated M by the ESRB board due to the “Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language” displayed in the game. The rating summary states that characters engage in furious hand-to-hand combat and use weapons like axes and chained blades, which result in large blood splatters.

The ESRB review for God of War spoiled a major element of the game, revealing Kratos’ weapon of choice, the double-chained blades. Sony later asked the organization to remove it from the description. Thankfully, Ragnarok’s summary leaves out important details, so players need not worry.

The violence in Ragnarok states that blood-splatter effects and dismemberment often appear on the screen. Players can also impale enemies and decapitate creatures using axes. The description also confirmed that players would visit various realms.

God of War: Ragnarok

Reportedly, God of War: Ragnarok will take 40 hours to finish; this includes the main content, side missions, and other activities. Players can finish the main story quest within 20 hours.

God of War: Ragnarok launches on November 9 for PS4 and PS5.
