Horizon Forbidden West follows Aloy in the brave quest to uncover secrets of the corrupted lands as she battles mysterious threats. The action role-playing quickly became a fan favorite because of its marvelous graphics, action sequences, and a brilliant plot.
Guerrilla Games’ Decima, the engine used to make Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, is also being used for some future Sony projects.
The Horizon games have been critically acclaimed, featuring some of the best visuals. This just goes to show how powerful the Decima engine can be.
Guerilla Games first worked with Decima on the 2013 title Killzone: Shadow Fall. The studio then developed Horizon Zero Dawn using the same engine. However, an updated version of Decima was used to build Horizon Forbidden West.
Although the studio has mainly used it, Guerilla does not hold any exclusive rights for Decima. In fact, as revealed by PlayStation Studios Head, Hermen Hulst, Decima would be utilized by several studios. He did not specify which studios, but based on a leaked document, there were a couple of theories.
The sequel to Kojima Productions’s Death Stranding is supposedly being built with Decima. This may not be surprising since the original Death Stranding was also developed using the same.
Another game set to use Decima is the PSVR2 exclusive, Horizon: Call of the Mountain, since it is part of the Horizon series.
The PS5 remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn will likely be built with Decima as well. However, fans are conflicted if the remake is necessary since the game is only five years old.
Horizon Forbidden West is available for PS4 and PS5.
