Overwatch 2 Disables Aim Assist for Console Users in Cross-Play Match

Apart from technical issues, the gameplay design for Overwatch 2 has had a few misses as well. Players were unhappy with the rewards system, claiming the sequel is now less fun because of the backward progression and some missing visual effects. Another such discovery forced fans to question Blizzard’s design.

Overwatch 2 automatically disables aim assist for console users when they play together with PC players.

This was discovered by a console player who noticed a significant drop in aim consistency after they joined the PC Pool. This puts console players at a disadvantage since PC players already perform better at an average, due to better framerates, camera control, and more precise aiming. Hopefully, Blizzard will see to this issue.

However, some PC players argued console aim assist was too dominating. Blizzard seems to favor PC players more, but that is arguable since cross-play is difficult to perfect anyways.

The first Overwatch title also did not allow console players to use aim assist in a cross-play match. Other major first-person shooter games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Vanguard include aim assist to give a level playing field for PC and console players alike.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

About Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.

Overwatch 2 is set to launch as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022. It will feature full cross-platform play.
