God of War: Ragnarok Director Talks About Importance of Continuity

God of War fans are beyond excited for God of War: Ragnarok. The 2018 game was a critically acclaimed success, setting new standards for fantasy action games, special thanks to director Cory Barlog. However, it was soon announced that Eric Williams would be replacing Barlog since the latter had other commitments.

God of War: Ragnarok director, Eric Williams, talked about how he would feel appreciated if the sequel is considered similar to the first God of War game which was directed by Cory Barlog.

Fans were unsure about how the director change would affect the game. So, this reassurance by Williams came as a relief. There’s always the pressure of meeting fan expectations.

Cory Barlog is still a part of the Ragnarok team, taking on the role of producer. Williams stated he didn’t want Ragnarok to feel like a separate game from Cory’s God of War, but rather, Ragnarok should just be another Norse Saga game. He also mentioned that as long as players were content with the game, he didn’t mind not receiving the credit.

Although God of War has had a history of changing directors, this has necessarily impacted the game too much. As evident from the gameplay trailer for Ragnarok, the tone and atmosphere of the game seem consistent with the first part.

Williams also talked about the impact of Covid on the development of God of War: Ragnarok. Even though the concept for the sequel was completed in 2018, the team had to overcome certain obstacles owing to the global pandemic.

Surprisingly, there are still some fans who believe Ragnarok will be postponed. Maybe it’s still a bit unbelievable that we are finally getting the long-awaited sequel.

God of War: Ragnarok releases on November 9, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
