Ubisoft’s Return to Steam– Three Major Titles Queued for Launch

Ubisoft mysteriously stopped putting its PC games on Steam a few years back. Most of its major releases in 2019 did not make it to the platform. However, it seems like this might be changing soon.

Ubisoft is all set to bring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Anno 1800, and Roller Champions to Steam.

A huge part of Ubisoft’s decision to refrain from releasing their games on Steam is to make them exclusive to the Epic Games Store, which was launched in 2018 in the digital PC games marketplace.

To attract gamers, Epic Games presented free games for its users, and even offered millions to video game publishers with favorable revenues. There was also a sudden boost in exclusivity contracts, which made it a preferred choice of players.

The list of Epic Games exclusives generally include multiple major Ubisoft titles. Anno 1800, which will be returning to Steam, was taken off the store with a note that read,

Notice: Sales of Anno 1800 will be discontinued on Steam after April 16th due to a publisher decision to make the game exclusive to another PC store.”

Apparently, Ubisoft never stopped their working relationship with Valve. Even after abruptly stopping game launches, it did continue to release DLC for its main games that were withdrawn from the store. Players who had already purchased those titles remained unaffected, other than a false alarm when a poorly worded message claimed their games would “not be accessible.”

“We’re constantly evaluating how to bring our games to different audiences wherever they are, while providing a consistent player ecosystem through Ubisoft Connect.”

It is unclear whether this means that Ubisoft will regularly release games on Steam, or it will depend on the individual game itself.
