Here’s what God of War: Ragnarok would look like on PlayStation 2

Recently, several companies are remaking their older games to make them fit for current-gen consoles. Amidst all this, some fans are demaking latest games to reimagine them as PS1 and PS2 titles.

Youtuber @Speclizer has shared a video of what God of War: Ragnarok would look like as a PlayStation 2 title.

The video begins with a shot of Kratos meeting with Thor for the first time. A funny detail in the background is that Atreus is missing a huge chunk of his torso. Even the characters’ faces are roughly animated and less detailed. Clearly, there is a huge difference in the graphics.

The next clip features Freya whose body is mostly absent. Get used to this, as this is a recurring detail in the video. At times, the camera zooms into someone’s face to highlight the visible downgrade from the actual graphics of God of War: Ragnarok.

Another scene shows Atreus and Angrboda hanging out together. The latter can be seen painting, but there is hardly any texture or detailing in the painting itself. Angrboda’s character looks well off as compared to the young boy accompanying her.

The final scene displays the first meeting between Atreus and Heimdall. Even with poor graphics, one can sense the tension in the scene, thanks to the acting and background score. Heimdall’s facial expressions are depicted well even in the PS2 version.

God of War: Ragnarok is one of 2022’s highest-rated games. The sequel is beautifully made with a keen eye for detail, unlike this unofficial PS2 version. A video like this only makes you realize how far we have come!

God of War: Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.

About God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on November 9, 2022, for PS4 and PS5.

Ragnarok is the ninth installment in the God of War series, chronologically, and the sequel to 2018’s God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Norway and features series protagonists Kratos and his young son Atreus. The events of the game are expected to initiate Ragnarok – a series of events that, according to Norse lore, bring about the end of days and the death of the Norse gods.
