Assassin’s Creed Valhalla became available on Steam on December 6, 2022. The 2020 title came with a massive launch offer, with a 67% discount for the base game and its DLCs. Fans soon realized that this news comes with its own hindrances as it was discovered that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was missing achievements on Steam.
Almost 2 weeks from its December release, Ubisoft has confirmed that there are no plans to add achievements to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Steam.
This announcement was met with displeasure from fans around the world. While it may not be a significant part of the game, it is true that the achievements would have given a holistic angle to porting Assassin’s Creed Valhalla onto Steam.
Some players guessed Ubisoft’s decision was done to encourage Assassin’s Creed fans to stay on Uplay, where the game has complete achievements and an entire ecosystem dedicated to it.
Couple of other Ubisoft titles, namely, Anno 1800 and Roller Champions, were also recently launched on Steam, and both the games lack achievements. One could say that Ubisoft’s promise to return to Steam seems half-hearted at best.
Even without the achievements, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla offers over 80 hours of gameplay with the main quests and side objectives. The title offers a season pass, and three full-length expansions for fans. It will truly be an immersive experience to explore the Viking Age.
It is unconfirmed whether Ubisoft will continue launching its games without Steam achievement support. However, the current backlash will certainly affect its future decisions. Ubisoft recently offered Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for free across all platforms over the weekend.
