Half-Life 2 Developers Used Actual Corpse Image for In-Game Texture

Although Half-Life 2 was released over 18 years ago, fans of the franchise often find themselves revisiting the classic title. Unfortunately, one such rerun led to the discovery of a horrid detail in the game.

It was discovered that the “corpse1.mdl” model from Half-Life 2 actually got its detailed texture from the image of a real burnt body.

The thread also contained a link to the original picture, but it was taken down by Twitter due to community violations. Valve must have mapped the image from the corpse onto the model which resulted in a similar design.

It is normal for video game developers to include scenes of brutality and gore. However, many agreed that it was pretty insensitive of Valve to use an actual dead body as a texture for a model in Half-Life 2.

Half-Life 2

Valve’s popularity has skyrocketed ever since Steam came into existence. However, back in the day, the company’s early success is credited to the original Half-Life game, which was released in 1998.

Even its successor, Half-Life 2, turned out to be a critically acclaimed title. Both these games are considered to be some of the best FPS titles.
