AMD Ryzen 7 7730U “Barcelo-R” Performance Compared to Ryzen 7 5825U

The AMD Ryzen 7 7730U “Barcelo-R” is an 8-core CPU featuring Zen3 architecture. It is a modified version of the Ryzen 7 5825U processor which has 8 CPU cores, 16 threads, and is mainly used in lightweight laptops and a few gaming consoles.

AMD Ryzen 7 7730U was recently compared to Ryzen 7 5825U since both processors use Zen3 architecture, have the same CPU configuration, and the same 2.0 base & 4.5 boost clocks.

Ryzen 7 7730U vs Ryzen 7 5825U

Ryzen 7 7730U is 4% and 3% faster in single-threaded and multi-core tests. This test is based on only two samples whereas the 5825U is based on 255 tests so there is a significant margin of error.

AMD Ryzen 7000 mobile series is split into five performance segments. The CPUs will also feature four different microarchitectures. So, just under the Ryzen 7000 series, users will be getting 4 different fabrication nodes and three graphic architectures.

With Ryzen 7000 CPUs, AMD also reintroduced the Vega GPU architecture, maybe for the last time before retiring it completely. While the newer models use Zen4 architecture, the simpler CPUs are based on Zen3 or even Zen2 architecture.

AMD has not really specified exactly what’s the difference between Barcelo-R and the original Barcelo APUs. However, the latter is a rework of Cezanne with different voltage, frequencies, and power limits.

AMD Ryzen 7000 series

With the comparison between the Ryzen 7 7730U and Ryzen 7 5825U, AMD’s plans to simplify the product stack is a little confusing. Although the 7730U is a new model, it does not really offer any major performance changes– the updated CPU is just slightly faster. Hopefully, further tests will shed some more light on its changes.
