Gears of War developer The Coalition had dropped several projects for Gears of War. Unfortunately, an Xbox executive confirmed that a new Gears of War game was not in the making as of now.
Former Gears of War writer and co-director Joshua Ortega confirmed his return to the Xbox Games franchise. However, it hasn’t been disclosed whether Ortega will be helping out with a new Gears game, or just novels/comics based on the series.
Ortega has written and co-directed Gears of War 2 and co-created the story and narrative design for Gears of War 3 alongside well-known Gears of War veteran Cliff Bleszinski.
Joshua Ortega even worked on TV ads and marketing campaigns for the game, as well as its manual. He then proceeded to write the first 13 issues of the Gears of War comic book prequel for DC Comics.
Fans of the series are elated upon hearing of Ortega’s comeback. His work in Gears of War sequels was highly appreciated. After Ortega left The Coalition, many felt that there was a significant difference in the Gears of War games & content as compared to before.
According to reports, there have been rumors of the Gears of War series being bundled together in a remastered collection similar to the Halo: The Master Chief collection. However, this has not been confirmed.
Netflix is producing a live-action movie and an adult-animated series for Gears of War. It is highly possible that Joshua Ortega has rejoined the team to work on these projects, or maybe something undisclosed. We will have to wait for official news for more information.
