Ubisoft Announces Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Sequel Forgotten Temple

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag was launched back in 2013 by Ubisoft. The action-adventure game is the sixth installment in the famed Assassin’s Creed franchise. It is set in 1715 in the Caribbean where pirates established a lawless rule disrupting international trade and threatened European power hierarchies. After almost 10 years, we finally have an answer to what happens next.

After its reveal in 2021, Ubisoft has finally announced the sequel to Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The official sequel Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple will be a webcomic, the result of a collaboration between Ubisoft and WEBTOON, the world’s largest digital comics platform.

Published by REDICE STUDIO, the comic will continue the exploits of Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed IV. It will be exclusively available on WEBTOON, bringing the thrilling series to its global fanbase.

The first six episodes of Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple will be released on April 24th, 2023 at 5pm PT. New episodes will be rolled out on a weekly basis.

Edward Kenway, the former privateer who turned into a pirate after being integrated into the Assassin Brotherhood, embarks on an important mission to find Pieces of Eden on the Southeast Asian shores. He will be faced with many dangerous and mysterious adventures on his new quest.

There’s also a new character who will be featured in the upcoming sequel. Meet Noa, a Korean American descendant of Edward Kenway, who is determined to solve the puzzling past of his ancestor while looking out for clues about his family.

Ubisoft plans to cover this new lore over three seasons, spanned out in a total of 150 episodes. Veteran fans of Assassin’s Creed are more than excited to see where this immersive story will go next. Although a webcomic is not what anyone expected, it is a fresh change from your usual Assassin’s Creed games.

“As longtime fans of the franchise, we can’t wait for readers to see where Edward Kenway’s story goes next. This incredible series will captivate existing fans of the Assassin’s Creed video games while introducing this beloved IP to a new audience on WEBTOON.”

David Lee, WEBTOON’s VP of Content

Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple is a fresh, one-of-a-kind spin to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Its aim is to maximize IP using new platforms and formats, to reach a much wider audience. Surely, Assassin’s Creed fans are in for a ride, especially one involving mysteries, adventures, and excitement.
