MSI Calls Back GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X GPUs a Week After Launch

The MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X was a new AIB partner model, specifically made for the Chinese market. The ‘SUPER 3X’ referred to its solid triple-fan cooling solution, inspired from the MSI “SUPRIM” cooler designs. The graphics card was just launched a few days back, but it looks like there might be a change of plans.

NVIDIA has directed MSI to recall its GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X graphics cards, just a week after it was released to Chinese markets. The reason for this bizarre move? The “SUPER” title was too similar to NVIDIA’s own Super series found in the RTX 20 GPUs.

Having “SUPER” in the GPU’s name could have misled buyers into thinking that the RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X was just another RTX 30 series SKU by NVIDIA and not a new AIB model. This would have led to some major confusion since NVIDIA does not have any SUPER SKU in their lineup yet.

It is surprising that NVIDIA waited until after the graphics card was launched to cancel it. Such a grave error could have been a result of NVIDIA’s uncertain product guidelines, or maybe MSI thought that it would not pose a problem since the RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X was exclusive to China.

MSI called this graphics card “SUPER” because of its grand build. The RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X measures 335 x 140 x 62mm. It also features GDDR6X memory which gives a slight boost in performance compared to the standard GDDR6 RTX 3060 Ti card.

MSI has removed the RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X from their website. Anyone who actually ended up with the GPU before it was canceled surely has a collectible in their hands.
