Intel China Officially Confirms 14th Gen Core Raptor Lake-S/HX Refresh

The Intel 14th Gen Core CPUs are rumored to launch within the next few months. According to Intel’s official roadmap, only the Meteor Lake and next-gen mobile processors were supposed to be using the “Core 3/5/7/9” branding. However, it looks like there has been a change of plans.

Intel China has officially confirmed that the Raptor Lake-S and Raptor Lake-HX refreshes will be included in the 14th Gen series. The Raptor Lake-U and Meteor Lake-P processors will be the first to reset and utilize the new “Core” and “Core Ultra” branding.

As shared on Weibo, Intel China explained briefly how the company will carry out this change. This is the first time the new branding schema has been officially mentioned.

In conclusion, the upcoming 14th Gen series will be divided between old and new naming guidelines. Even the Raptor Lake series will be split into Core and Core i subseries.

The Core branding will be applied to Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake-U Refresh. The older Core i branding will be specifically used by Raptor Lake-S and Raptor Lake-HX Refresh.

Here’s a roundup for the new branding by Intel:

  • Core Ultra 5/7/9 – Meteor Lake
  • Core 3/5/7 – Raptor Lake-U Refresh
  • 14th Gen Core i Mobile – Raptor Lake HX Refresh
  • 14th Gen Core i Desktop – Raptor Lake S Refresh

Meteor Lake will be further classified under “Core Ultra”, which will separate it from the Raptor Lake-U series. However, both products will feature architecture from the same generation.

The new branding is essentially bringing together multiple architectures. Intel plans to undergo a new phase altogether with this change. The final lineup is yet to be announced, so watch out for more details on the upcoming 14th Gen Core series.
